With Selling Handmade Goods In-Person Difficult, Some Artists And Business People Turn To Etsy – Texas Standard Daily Show

A lot of artists and business people have managed to find a way to meet the challenge of staying afloat during the pandemic. For some, that means making and selling things online, often via Etsy, a multibillion-dollar marketplace that caters to customers who want handmade and custom items.

Tech expert Omar Gallaga says Austinites have been especially busy on Etsy, some expanding existing offerings to include products people want more of during the pandemic, while others are starting new businesses.

“Etsy has really emerged as a major, major e-commerce place,” Gallaga said.

What you’ll hear in this segment:

  • What products are popular among Etsy buyers during the pandemic
  • How artists are using Etsy to make up for the loss of festivals and holiday craft fairs
  • How brick-and-mortar merchants have been able to make money on Etsy
