Madison Sheahan, the secretary of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries ( LDWF), wrote a letter to the commissioners asking them to consider expanding the opportunities for Louisiana sportsmen to fish for both for fun and for recreation.
The Secretary suggests lowering the Blacktip and Bull Sharks ‘ outdoor size and case restrictions. She advises removing the 54 inch outdoor minimum size control and the one per-person daily hands limit for these fish. She also suggests a 50-50 increase in the regular commercial catch, per journey, from 45 to 55 sharks.
We are obligated to the sportsmen of Louisiana to exercise responsive management in order to minimize consumer conflict and increase opportunity, according to Madison Sheahan, Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.” The species quickly adapts and repairs due to successful cooperative conservation efforts. The numbers of Blacktip and Bull sharks are now sufficient to warrant further harvest, and doing so would help us more coordinate our management efforts for a number of species that are sought after by both professional and recreational fishermen.
