Due to contamination by harmful substances like dioxins and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs ), anglers are advised to use caution and avoid consuming fish from the following areas. For these parts, certain recommendations have been issued by the Texas Department of State Health Services to safeguard public health.
West of Clear Lake and downstream of Clear Creek
- Counties: Brazoria, Fort Bend, Galveston, and Harris
- Contaminants:
- Dioxins
- Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs )
- Advisory: Do not drink any species of fish from these waters.
Houston Ship Channel and Contiguous Waters ( including the San Jacinto River below the Lake Houston Dam ) are located along State Highway 146 north of the Fred Hartman Bridge.
- Contaminants:
- Dioxins
- Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs )
- Advisory: Do not take blue crabs or any species of fish from these waters.
Important Note:
Major health risks are present in these areas because of the presence of PCBs and dioxins. To reduce exposure to these dangerous pollutants, anglers are urged to heed these instructions.
