Canine go and export guidelines that will have an impact on U.S. hunters who have returned from Canada this hunting season were updated on July 22. These new criteria, in the opinion of a statement from Ducks Unlimited, take effect on August 1, 2024, making them much clearer and simpler than those that the organization had set at the end of June.
Ducks Unlimited ( DU) supported Rep. Nick Langworthy’s ( NY ) bipartisan letter urging the CDC to simplify and/or delay this proposed rule last week, and will continue to closely monitor the issue.
Hunters still need to ensure that everything is in order before heading north this fall, including the Canadian Food Inspection Agency ( CFIA )’s ( CFIA ) standard requirements, despite the new guidelines ‘ simpler language. The updated CDC-specific criteria are as follows:
- Dog Import Form: If your dog has only traveled in countries that have been rabies-free or low-risk for the past six months ( Canada is regarded as rabies-free ), you will only need new verification of completion of a CDC Dog Import Form online. When the form is full, hunters may save a copy digitally or print it out literally. More CDC guidelines for filling out this free type can be found here.
- Great Health: Your dog may look good to enter or re-enter the U. S.
- Canine microchip: To be identified, they must possess a current microchip that can be used with a common scanner. The amount of time needed to administer a chip is no longer a necessity.
- Age Requirement: Dogs must be at least 6 months older.

- Validity: The transfer style’s receipt is true for 6 months unless the canine visits a high-risk nation.
- Multiple Entries: The certificate can be used for many comments if the dog has n’t been in a high-risk country in the past 6 months.
- Cost: Free
- Number of Dogs: Each canine needs its unique form.
- When should you submit the trade form, which is advisable to be completed a few days or weeks before traveling, even though you can do it right away at a crossing with reliable cell service.
