Republican and Democratic primaries are currently holding runoff elections for the open Texas House seat vacated by Democratic state representative Bobby Guerra (D-McAllen ), who made his retirement announcement in October.
After serving two terms as the Hidalgo County Democratic Party chair in the early 2000s, Guerra was first elected in 2012 and sworn into office in 2013. He was elected in 2013. He served on a number of committees, including the 89th Congressional Session’s vice chair, as well as the House Select Committee on Congressional Redistricting, which helped advance the very controversial GOP-favored congressional redistricting chart during the next special session of 2025.
