Alpine, Texas resident and volunteer fire on suspicion of starting numerous paint fires in the area were detained on July 5.
David Matthew Neet, 44, of Alpine, Texas, was arrested by Brewster County Sheriff’s Soldiers in connection with many wildland fires spanning 2023 – 2024.
The roots of the prolific fire fires were uncovered by an initial Brewster County Sheriff’s Office analysis, which led Texas A&M Forest Service Law Police investigators to work with them to further research and discover the cause of the flames.
Neet is currently being detained at the Brewster County Detention Center on 20 counts of Texas Penal Code 28.02 Arson F2. He is currently being held on a$ 300, 000 bond.
Texas A&M Forest Service enforces all laws governing the protection of forests and woodlands and sue those who violate them, as mandated by the 34th Texas Legislature. A state jail felony, which includes up to 20 years in prison, no less than two years in a state jail, and a fine of up to$ 10,000.
” We investigate wildland fire circumstances, and work to bring those responsible to justice”, said Jarred Lemmon, Assistant Chief Law Enforcement Officer, Texas A&M Forest Service. Without Brewster County Deputy Holquin’s assistance, the success of this event would not have been feasible.
Since Jan. 1, 2024, Texas A&M Forest Service Law Enforcement personnel have responded to 70 fire studies and 48 forest theft issues.
