Weather delays start of Fredericksburg community COVID-19 testing Monday, Jan. 11

By Fredericksburg Standard Post News Staff, Jan. 10, 2021

Due to inclement weather conditions, the COVID-19 community testing event scheduled for Monday, Jan. 11, will delay the start time to 10:00 AM The event will last until 4:00 PM and take place at the Pioneer Pavilion at Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park.

As planned, COVID-19 community testing events will be taking place in January 2021, over a span of five

days. These testing events will be offered free of charge to the public. The testing events are scheduled for Monday, Jan. 11, through Friday, Jan. 15 at the following times:

  • Monday, Jan. 11 – 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM
  • Tuesday, Jan. 12 – 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
  • Wednesday, Jan. 13 – 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
  • Thursday, Jan. 14 – 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
  • Friday, Jan. 15 – 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM

All testing will take place at the Pioneer Pavilion located at Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park.

There is no pre-registration required for this testing. Registration will take place on site.

Testing can be conducted on patients under the age of 5 with parental assistance. Testing will be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis.

The testing method that will be used for this event will be a self-administered oral swab test rather than a nasal swab. Those being tested are asked to wear their masks and to refrain from eating or drinking anything for 20 minutes prior to testing. The events will have the capacity to conduct up to 600 tests daily.

A screening process will be in place and administered by State Health Department personnel trained to gather information and assess symptoms which could suggest that a person should be tested for COVID-19.

Anyone with the primary symptoms of COVID-19, including fever and/or chills, dry or productive cough, fatigue, body aches/muscle or joint pain, shortness of breath, sore throat, headaches, nausea/vomiting/diarrhea, nasal congestion, or loss of taste and/or smell, will be eligible for testing without the need of a prescription from a medical professional. Anyone who is asymptomatic may also be tested.

Once results are available, patients will receive a text message with a link to a portal with results and information. Those who test positive will also be contacted by their local health department.

For additional information, please contact Catherine Kuhlmann, Fredericksburg Fire EMS Infectious Disease Control Officer, at (830) 992-9218.
