CCA Texas has a long history of supporting TPWD Game Wardens along the Texas coastline. This funding frequently comes in the form of products, volunteer pay, and, in this case, a floating house that will allow the jailers to get the waters of the Upper Laguna Madre, Baffin, and the Land Cut areas.
After Hurricane Hanna hit the Laguna Madre system in 2020, both floating cabins suffered major, or overall, damage. Since then, the wardens have noticed a decrease in the effectiveness of vessel fuel, maintenance, and patrol times as a result of the loss of these crucial assets. The CCA Texas Executive Board granted cash needed to build a fresh Game Warden’s house in Baffin Bay. The project’s overall value is$ 82, 850.
When total cases of fishing and water safety were compared to the two years before and the two years after the Baffin area’s floating cabin was destroyed, wardens observed a 28 % decrease in efficiency. When comparing the same period to the same period, only speckled trout violations were compared, wardens experienced a 62 % decline in written citations. While other factors are factored in, wardens can attest that having a floating cabin that allows them to stay on the station for longer would have generally addressed these numbers.
