The Texas Senate approved legislation on Wednesday that would ban local governments from using tax dollars to hire lobbyists, but while the measure polls well with voters from both parties, Democratic lawmakers remain firmly opposed.
Introduced by state Sen. Mayes Middleton (R-Galveston), Senate Bill (SB) 12 prohibits political subdivisions such as cities, counties, municipal utility districts, or traditional public school districts from hiring or contracting with registered lobbyists for the purpose of lobbying the state government.
