The Texas Senate Business and Commerce Committee voted unanimously to favorably report to the full Senate the committee substitute for Senate Bill (SB) 15 by state Sen. Royce West (D-Dallas) that addresses title theft and fraud.
Gov. Greg Abbott’s special session agenda included “strengthened protections against title theft and deed fraud.” He vetoed SB 648 by West that attempted to address the issue in the regular session. Abbott stated that he vetoed the bill because it imposed “barriers that will burden low-income Texans, rural residents, and those handling family land without legal assistance.”
