According to TPWD officials, they are found in large, spiny thickets, bushland, and second-growth forest border along the Gulf-Caribbean slope from the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas and Nuevo Leon, Mexico, north to Honduras and Costa Rica.
Texas is the only state with enough of these distinctive birds to provide a season for hunting, and they are found in four counties ( Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr, Willacy ):
These distinctive gamebirds offer a hard searching experience for the adventurer because they are mysterious and frequently difficult to spot in their native wildlife. The next year runs from October 30 through February 27 and has a normal bag cap of five birds.
Hunting is permitted at five Las Palomas Wildlife Management Area devices through Texas Parks & Wildlife. The Baird, Anacua, Carricitos, Longoria, and Tucker Models are among them.
