After the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the case on December 4 and allowed the newly drawn congressional map to remain in place, which is expected to favour the GOP in the 2026 elections, Texas legislators had a variety of opinions.
Gov. Greg Abbott praised the decision on Thursday, claiming that the “new charts much align our picture in D.C. with the principles of Texas.” Abbott cited the perceived benefits the decision’s decision has for the Republican Party in the 2026 election cycle, claiming that Texas is “officially- and legally-more dark” in light of the recent SCOTUS decision.
