Superintendents across the state were instructed to record cases of teachers or staff who have posted or shared comments disparaging or celebrating the assassination of conservative figure Charlie Kirk in a letter from Texas Education Agency ( TEA ) Commissioner Mike Morath on Friday. The agency can look into any misconduct that may be committed.
The TEA has been notified in a letter released on Friday that teachers, staff, and administrators have posted comments online about the killing of Kirk that are “reprehensible and improper” and “do not reveal the vast majority of Texas teachers who are dedicated professionals that work diligently to provide the more than 5.5 million impressionable young minds in our classrooms.”
