Election night ended the showdown between state Rep. Trent Ashby (R-Lufkin) and GOP primary challenger Rhonda Ward, with Ashby winning the Republican nomination by a wide margin.
Preliminary early voting results reflected the candidates’ standings in the election, showing Ashby with 63 percent of Republican votes and Ward with 37 percent.
