The Republican primary for a Houston-area congressional district left vacant after incumbent U.S. Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-TX-38) opted to run for U.S. Senate is headed for a runoff election after none of the 10 contenders won at least 50 percent of the vote Tuesday.
According to unofficial election results, mortgage and real estate broker Jon Bonck led the pack with 48 percent and will go to a runoff election in May against businesswoman Shelly DeZevallos, who took just under 19 percent. Tomball Independent School District Board President Michael Pratt, businessman Larry Rubin, and Barrett McNabb captured 11 percent, 7 percent, and 6 percent respectively, while each of the other GOP candidates won 2 percent or less.
