Senior Citizens Center in Leakey, Texas

September 14, 2019 Meeting Minutes

The Real County Historical Commission held its regularly scheduled meeting September 14, 2019 at the Senior Citizens Center in Leaky, Texas.  The meeting was called to order at 2:00 p.m. by President Carol Ann Kolb.

Scott Kolb offered an invocation, and everyone followed in unison with the pledge of allegiance to the American and Texas Flag.

The minutes of the May 18  meeting were read by Secretary Jim Holder and approved. The treasurer’s report was not available.

Old Business:

From previous meeting Ginger Perkins had been authorized to purchase black out shades for the windows.  She had purchased the shades for $42.05, and a motion was made to reimburse her for the personal expense incurred.  Motion approved.

Susan Knight reported that the new video camera previously approved for purchase had been ordered and received.  She will report the actual cost at the next meeting, but stated that it was about $111.00.

Announcements:

Susan Knight announced that the Caddel Smith Chapter of DRT invites everyone to the medallion dedication ceremony in memory of Margaret Jackson Brown (1828-1892) to be held at the Floral Cemetery in Leakey, on October 10 at 11:00 a.m.

Susan also announced that our next meeting will be held on November 16 with presentation speakers Doug Howerton and John Harberer. As avocational students of archaeology over fifty years, they will

present “An Overview of Hill County Archaeology.”

New Business:

There was no new business to address, and the meeting adjourned at 2:14 p.m.

The meeting was followed with a presentation by Pam Hawes, Archivist for H. E. Butt Foundation.

Pam presented the history of Howard and Mary Butt and their purchase of the W. W. Wolf Ranch north of Leakey in 1954. She shared the mission and development of the Butt Foundation Ranch to provide programs to youth and adults which currently serves 24,000 to 26,000 thousand persons annually.

After the presentation, everyone enjoyed refreshments and fellowship.
