Baffin Bay’s waters are suddenly becoming colder as autumn draws near. This cooler waters is bringing more life back into the sea after a really hot summers and water conditions in the great 1980s. Bass at this time of year enjoy the bay’s deep waters and rock formations. Which one you choose to fish will depend on your preferred technique. Many of our larger fish prefer to hide in the morning’s deep turf before emerging as the sun begins to rise. Fish of ordinary size are also mixed in with fish of larger dimension.
As you transition from vegetation to rock formations, you’ll notice that they hold substantial bass while a few larger speckled trout loom nearby.
Life grouper would typically be our life bait of choice, but it is extremely uncommon at this time of year to get them in large numbers for a guided trip. At this point, we start fishing with live crab while a cork is popping. To make the sound I want, I personally try to either purchase or create lids that will rattle loudly or ring against a hard surface.
I try to have a shorter chief when fishing the flats with the pop bottle so that the crab will just swing above the top of the grassy areas. In the deeper waters that contain the massive boulder systems unique to Baffin Bay only, I permit a longer leader. This fall, there have been many of our large dark seafood that have moved into the lake’s cooling waters. This time of year, lure-based swim fish can be thrilling. The water has started to clear up and look castings can be enjoyable now that the strong summer winds are behind us.
Keep in mind that these fish can see you wading through the ocean, and they can also sense your presence. Choose a color option that has some spark or sparkle that you feel comfortable throwing while moving slowly. When you are aware that there are fish nearby, try to follow your get at the same speed as the natural bait while giving the fish plenty of chances to have. In these ocean, compassion and assurance are essential.
