From January 29 to February 1, 2024, the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council ( Council ) will convene at the Hyatt Centric French Quarter in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Council intends to finalize an Abbreviated Framework Action that considers raising street shrimp catch limits during this meeting.
Prior to the interview process in June 2024, the Council intends to evaluate and finish the composition of the Steering Committee for the Recreational Initiative as well as talk about reorganizing the Scientific and Statistical Committees. The Council may discuss the next steps for for-hire digital monitoring after hearing a summary of its meeting with the Ad Hoc Charter For-Hire Data Collection Advisory Panel. The Marine Recreational Information Programs Fishing Effort Survey ( MRIP- FES ) will continue to be discussed by the Council, along with allocations and the allocation review policy, in order to address management issues. Enable Criteria for Taking Part in Individual Fishing Quota Programs will be covered by the Council. The Council will also continue to work on joke grouper management and changes to the mid-water fish complex.
At 8:30 AM CST, the Council Committees does meet. The whole government will meet at 10:45 AM CST, and the public comment period will start at 1:30PM.
