The U.S. House of Representatives ‘ passage of the Duck Stamp Modernization Act ( H. R. 2872 ) on September 20, 2023, is praised by Delta Waterfowl. The act gives American waterfowlers the option to carry a physical Bird Stamp or an electric mark on their smartphones while hunting ducks and geese.
Reps. Garret Graves, R-La., and Rep. Mike Thompson, D-California, sponsored the bill, which was approved by a voice voting indicating resounding bipartisan support.
“The Duck Stamp Modernization Act brings America’s celebrated Duck Stamp program into the 21st century, ensuring its continued legacy as one of the world’s most effective and efficient wetland conservation tools while also creating a seamless process for duck hunters,” said John Devney, chief policy officer for Delta Waterfowl. “We’d especially like to thank Reps. Graves and Thompson for championing the important, commonsense legislation in the House.”
According to latest federal law, online purchases of duck stamps are only valid for 45 days before being required to be in possession by duck and goose hunters. The law enables online seal buyers to simply display their mark on a smartphone throughout the entire birds season. Importantly, hunters will still be able to buy the actual stamp from conventional Duck Mark retailers like the U.S. Postal Service.
Sens. 788, a Senate friend piece to the House bill, was introduced in July. Additionally, overwhelmingly approved were Roger Marshall, John Boozman, Angus King, I, Maine, Joe Manchin, and D-W.V. The Duck Stamp Modernization Act should be sent to President Biden for his name by both Congressional halls, according to Delta Waterfowl’s ardent support.
The Duck Hunters Organization will continue to support this regulations until it is passed, according to Devney. We support the nonpartisan and parliamentary effort to give waterfowlers a fresh, practical way to demonstrate their yearly Duck Stamp purchases.
