Decisions made by Pentagon contracting officers, members of <a href=”https://www.propublica.org/series/disposable-army”>the defense industry, legislative staffers, and other people every day have a significant impact on the world’s most expensive army, having a significant impact on both the safety of the soldiers and the nation as a whole. It is well known that several Pentagon projects end up being hampered by difficulties, cost overruns, and performance issues despite those involved having good intentions. The citizens who foot the bill typically find the causes of these issues opaque.
