On 4, 000 acres of maritime lake on the East Unit of the Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge in Texas, Ducks Unlimited just finished a task to restore control capacity. The 37, 000-acre shelter is situated 33 miles from Galveston on the Gulf Coast, just outside the Houston metropolitan area. The US Fish and Wildlife Service( USFWS) and CenterPoint Energy all provided funding for the$ 1 million Jackson Ditch Project.

To implement habitat restoration projects that improve endurance, outdoor recreation opportunities, and water quality in communities essential to the company’s employees and customers, we are happy to collaborate with partners like USFWS and businesses like CenterPoint Energy.
In order to provide ducks and geese with a nesting and movement habitat, Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge was founded in 1963. The maritime marsh is managed by the USFWS for migratory and native waterfowl, shorebirds, and waterbird species. It is one of three shelters in the Texas Chenier Plain National Wildlife Refuge Complex and has been named a page of international significance for the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network, Monarch Waystation, and Globally Important Bird Area.
