Last Thursday, the Coast Guard recovered two divers who had vanished 15 yards abroad from Matagorda.
On Wednesday afternoon, Sector Corpus Christi watchstanders received a warning claiming the fishermen were last seen rising in unfavorable weather conditions and were not seen after circumstances cleared.
A Station Port O’Connor 45-foot Answer Boat-Medium boat team, along with an Air Station Corpus Christi MH-65 Dolphin Helicopter and HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft aircrew, were launched in search of the fishermen. Additionally, the Coast Guard Cutter Edgar Culbertson staff was given instructions to help with search operations.
While searching for the divers, the Ocean Sentry airplane crew noticed a flashing light in the water and followed them to the cutter. The fishermen were taken to Coast Guard Station Freeport, where they were past reportedly in a stable state.
A total of about 1, 656 square miles were searched over a period of 36 hours.
