WHAT CONSTITUTES A GOOD DAY on the ocean? Total restrictions? Trophy bass? Everyone’s definition may have a unique interpretation. Any day on the ocean is a gift. Taking in God’s creation helps recharge our individual power.
You must clearly connect what your customers are looking for as a fishing guide. The majority of people are seeking a mast bender. Some of my clients have different objectives after 30 years of fishing with me. Most people enjoy a safe journey when little cuts. Some customers come to learn various techniques/bait/presentation/spots, etc. A prize or strict regulations entice others. The most satisfying thing about floating on ocean is being there.
I have been fishing Matagorda for 40 plus years. Things have certainly changed. Limits, estuary, population ( fish and human ). Not as many bass are present as there used to be. In less than an afternoon of bird fish, I managed to catch 50 salmon. In less than 30 minutes with customers, Crack 60 sags. Every put, I’ve taken five-pound redfish until I’m done. We also have time like that, but they are few and far in between.
At the fish station, the guides were waiting for clients during a pow-wow. We were mulling over our day’s plans. The ocean was chocolate-colored and the wind was blowing difficult. The majority of them chose the dark drum. Never had the idea of this happening. Fish have always been the target species. Redfish have become a mainstay because the population has dropped since the last ice a few years back. Recently, the mast has been bending with the aid of a dark disc. Although they may not be as tasty as fish, they are enjoyable to find. Do n’t get me wrong, we still target trophy trout, but times are changing so you have to adapt. A great day on the water can be had all time.
June problems are starting to be more regular. When the weather lays, we are boxing fish on midbay islands. In deep water, redfish and dark drums are improving. The best way to get life crab is to pop the cork. Nighttime Flounder gigging has improved. In my opinion, this has been a late start to everyone.
