A fatal boating incident in Sabine Parish on May 28 was witnessed by search and rescue teams from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries ( LDWF), Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Office, Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the Sabine Parish Fire District.
The body of Macy Richard, 27, of Opelousas, was recovered by the search and rescue team from Toledo Bend Lake soon after responding to the event. Search and rescue team recovered the body of Jerilyn Hebert, 57, of Opelousas, from Toledo Bend Lake around 4: 30 p. m.
According to the victims, five users rented a fishing vessel on Toledo Bend Lake with a hunting guide. Around 11:50 a.m., a storm hit the boat boat, causing it to collapse, sending all six people into the water. The manual was able to dial 911.
Around 1 p.m., LDWF brokers arrived on the scene and discovered three of the customers and the manual clinging to the capsized vessel. They managed to drag them onto the LDWF vehicle.
The Sabine Parish Coroner’s Office looked over Richard and Hebert’s systems to identify their true causes of death.
The head investigative body for this fatal boating event will be the U.S. Coast Guard.
