THE WIDE OPEN fish of the summer is so near that we can almost feel it. The best preface to the wonderful time of year we call summer are the months of May and June.
This is like having a test run of almost everything the summer times have to offer without having to deal with the triple digit conditions. On the climb, the ocean will be above 70 degrees. The strong natural tides will bring in tons of hyped-up fish fish, and the weather should be mostly firm. The only thing we dread the most about summers fishing is the extreme heat, but all the components are there.

We may be yet closer than some of us might have realized because summer actually begins on June 20. Whatever the circumstances may be, we have waited far enough and are eager to begin this endeavor. It’s time to throw on some clothes and connect the vessel. The time has come to get in the summer thinking and begin focusing on the tactics and patterns that will keep the tuna in the boat for the long haul. It’s time to start thinking about the sea, the shoreline, the river, bayous and streams.

These on Sabine, it’s time for us to start thinking about the entire habitat. We are becoming enormous in terms of where we can go and what we can do to catch fish as air and water temperatures are rising. As they follow crab, carp, and hairstyle from the Gulf of Mexico, up the Neches and Sabine river, and everywhere in between, the reins are beginning to loosen the reins on fish, red, and fish. When you start to notice the sun starting to fade from your neck, switch to soft plastics that can be bounced off 1 / 8 oz. direct heads or under popping bottle. D. O. A. C. A. L. Series Shad, Down South Lures and Zoom Super Flukes will certainly get their attention. These are also difficult to resist for flies.
