What a wonderful time to go fishing on the water when the daytime temperatures are also acceptable. May and June may be ideal times for catch fish in Galveston Bay with cooler mornings still in store and finally no 100-degree days. The busiest time of year is when most tutorials are looking for work, with people looking to get outside and spend some quality time with one another and schools taking their summer breaks. Nothing is better than creating thoughts on the water!
I generally target speckled redfish and trout with shrimp under popping corks and soft plastics on flats this time of year. Marsh drainage are often excellent places to invest in as well. The key to success is always fish and water activity. Places around Moses Lake, Dollar Point, Clear Lake, East Bay and Houston Point are all places I cover on a regular basis. I enjoy spending the first portion of my days fish in the sea. I like to work out of the jetties once we get to mid-morning and typically conclude my trips out there.
The shoreline consistently produce fish throughout the year. The fish like to load up on the rocks nearby because the water is heating up and there are lots of baitfish and prawns. And generally until about the 2nd month of June, the sheepshead bite is extremely constant. For salmon, we are fishing complimentary- lined prawns just under the surface. To help keep the crab down in the water paragraph where I want it to be, I place a small cut shot weight between 15 and 18 inches above the rope. We have caught some nice bass at the jetties this time of year because the fish are typically violent when hunting this method. I also use a knob equipment and a popping cork along the rocks for sheepshead fishing. There are numerous places to catch bass on both jetties in the Galveston doorway, but some often come out better than others. When the tide is n’t ripping, fish near the shoreline can be very profitable. Additionally, fishing close to any clean throughs in the mountains where the water moves freely from one part to the other often results. This makes a great ambush location for predators and allows bait to get pushed across. With all the vessel traffic moving through and the large number of boats typically anchored up either side, the Galveston northern pier is somewhat unique because it has a dedicated ship cut, which is one of the busiest places for fishing.
Always be on the alert for tides coming from fast-moving tankers, which is a good rule when fish close to the jetties. If someone is n’t paying attention, these things can quickly catch you and really catch them off guard! So, get out and enjoy this part of the summer and realize, taking a child fish!
