With$ 1 million in personal capital in 2008, Texas Tribune Founder John Thornton seeded his belief in journalism as a public good, anticipating a market failure in news, and founding the Tribune in 2009. The other half of that product, which was$ 500, 000 in 2027, will serve as a matching account for donations made as part of a plan to mobilize the group of supporters who supported the Tribune’s first paragraph as it moves forward with its upcoming one.

John viewed media as a form of public system, not a sentimental institution that needed to be preserved, but a means of attainment, just as important as roads or schools for a functioning democracy.

While John Thornton was the organization’s founding creator, it will only be possible for those who follow him to see themselves as members, masters, and entrepreneurs, according to Tribune CEO Sarah Adler Hartman.
