State Sen. Sarah Eckhardt (D-Austin ), the Democratic nominee for comptroller in the November 2026 election, endorsed Democratic gubernatorial candidate Gina Hinojosa’s (D-Austin ) campaign pledge to send$ 1,500 to each Texas household, but also suggested an alternative way to use it.
The Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts may oversee the Economic Stabilization Fund, also known as the Rainy Day Fund, and would provide the$ 17 billion needed for for a walk.
