El Paso, Texas’s ( TPWD ) Franklin Mountains State Park has grown by 1,054 acres to the east thanks to a new land acquisition.
” I’m excited about this acquisition,” said superintendent Cesar Mendez,” which adds some lower elevation and flatter land to Franklin Mountains State Park and securing access points ( trailheads ).” The acquisition extends the buffer zone all the way to Martin Luther King Boulevard.
By providing a cushion, this consolidation reduces industrialization invasion and increases access to the northern part of the area, including existing trailhead access to world-class mountain bike trails. Because of this purchase, industrial growth from the east won’t be obstructing the views of the mountains.
The property also aids in protecting the principal hill range’s habitat for desert bighorn sheep.
In the north Chihuahuan plain, tourists can enjoy excellent hiking, walking, and rock-climbing options at Franklin Mountains State Park, which is located 15 minutes from El Paso. There are now about 28, 000 acres, or 43 square miles of hiking and more than 120 miles of path, in one of the largest urban wilderness parks in the world. For birders, plants fanatics, and those with a keen eye to spot the snakes and small animals that call the collection home, the Franklins are a fantastic place.
When available qualities are identified, TPWD conducts a due diligence check to ascertain whether the property is suitable for public use. Agency teams will collaborate to carry natural and cultural source surveys once the sale is perfect to provide management plans and upcoming visitor interpretive exhibits.
A common usage plan will be created by TPWD playground planners and resource specialists to determine the most appropriate way to use the new property. Although this plan may take months to build, TPWD will let you know about future milestones, including a possible opening date.
