U.S. Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX-21) and state Sen. Mayes Middleton (R-Galveston) will begin campaigning anew to become the next Texas attorney general after neither captured enough votes to avoid a runoff in Tuesday’s Republican primary election.
According to unofficial election results as of 10 p.m. Tuesday night, Middleton took 41 percent of the vote in the four-way primary, while Roy carried 31 percent. Texas Sen. Joan Huffman (R-Houston) and former U.S. Assistant Attorney General Aaron Reitz each captured less than 20 percent.
