My family Lu and I visited the Cameron, Texas, J. P. Werner Café, which serves scrumptious breakfast and lunch options. The trip began on Round Rock’s Chandler Road, also known as University Boulevard. We made a quick northbound trip on Texas Highway 95, followed by Farm-to-Market Road 1331, Farm-to-Market Road 486, and suddenly U.S. Highway 190 heading Cameron.
We ended up on picturesque two-lane country streets lined with cornfields and elm trees. The path gently curved, and the lovely views beckoned us to slow down and take in the beauty of our surroundings. We observed maverick cow silhouetted against the clear blue sky as we rode along FM 1331.
On FM 486, we came upon the Exotic Wildlife Game Ranch farther down the road. The spotted coats of plane deer gleamed in the sunlight, and they roamed gently. This unexpected encounter gave our journey a whole new sizing, highlighting the diversity of the wildlife in the area.
We arrived in Cameron after about an hour and fifteen days. Cameron, which was established in the middle of the 19th century, reflects its history as a gateway for the cotton and cattle deals. E. H. Cameron, a well-known figure in Texan politicians, is the patron saint of the city. Its streets are lined with old structures.
We were drawn to the traditional façade and posters of the 1939 J. P. Werner Café as we arrived. The café embodies the nature of a historical Texas city thanks to its nostalgic appeal. It has a vintage beer pond that serves homemade tinctures. Sweet country music from the 1940s and 1950s served as the perfect backdrop for a wonderful dining experience, accentuating the atmosphere.
Breakfast is served daily from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Our experience was especially enjoyable when we tried their famous Dutch baby pancakes, which are soft and gentle. The café is also known for its Texas-sized cakes, graciously smothered in rich sausage gravy. The menu also includes ranch hash ( seasoned potato hash browns ) served with eggs that are cooked to your liking.
As we continued to research the menu, we discovered a number of pastries that were capable of taking home leading prizes at a county fair. Every day, peach, grapes, and cream varieties are baked, making them a scrumptious treat for dessert. Breakfast is served from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The lunch menu includes hearty options, including clean salads and sandwiches made with fresh ingredients. In a warm and welcoming environment with pleasant company, J. P. Werner Café serves up British fare and scratch foods.
After having our meal, Lu and I made our way up to Round Rock on State Route 77 south, followed by State Route 79 west, and finally State Route 79. The whole journey spanned 123 miles, or roughly two and a half days. The route enhanced the entire experience of our vacation by providing a captivating array of landscapes and sudden discoveries of unique game.
