The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries ( LDWF ) had a successful woodcock banding night on December 12 with 78 birds banded after working with landowners in West Feliciana Parish!
Early in November, blackbird start to migrate to Louisiana from their north breeding grounds. Early in February, they start their transfer movement to Canada and the northern United States.
In grown agriculture and dry fields, woodcock frequently spend the winter evenings feeding on worms. LDWF biologists gather and strap them during this time to gather important data on motion, harvest, and survival.
LDWF has been working to increase its access to nighttime pheasant biodiversity as part of a nationwide effort to band them.
