Winter market shines after rain

By Chuck Mccollough for the Bandera Bulletin, December 2, 2020

Bandera and cowboy are synonyms in these parts, but Bandera also has an eclectic side which was on display last weekend at Zoka Jo’s River Front Winter Market.

Saturday’s rain slowed business, but shoppers turned out in droves to the event at the River Front Motel when the weather changed Sunday.

“We had an awesome Sunday. The sun coming out after people were stuck at home from rain gave folks a chance to come to our market,” said Heather Jones.

Customers frequently inquired about the origin of the shop’s unique name.

“Zo is for our daughter Zoe, the Ka is for our son Katon and Jo is for our family name Jones,” Jones explained with a smile.

The family business was doing four weekend events a year, one for each season, until COVID-19 shut thing down for such events.

“This is our last market for 2020 and we plan to do four markets in 2021,” said Jones. “March 13-14, June 26-27, October 16-17 and November 28.”
