President Donald Trump named his preferred candidate in a number of races across Texas as the state geared up for its primary election — notably differing from Gov. Greg Abbott’s picks in a handful of contests, with assorted results across the board.
One of the most notable endorsements made by Trump that didn’t pan out for his candidate this cycle was for Texas agriculture commissioner. He had thrown his support behind incumbent Sid Miller, who lost to Abbott-endorsed candidate Nate Sheets by about five percentage points. Trump endorsed Miller about four days before the election and after the end of early voting, giving Miller’s campaign the weekend preceding the primary to tout the endorsement and potentially garner more support.
