Ahead of President Donald Trump’s “One, Big, Beautiful Bill” (OBBB) being passed by the U.S. Senate, members overwhelmingly voted in favor of stripping a wide-ranging artificial intelligence (AI) provision.
By a vote of 99 to 1, members removed a provision to the OBBB that would have placed a 10-year pause on state-level AI regulation. The introduction of the provision was spearheaded by Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), who appeared to have come to an agreement on modifying the language of the amendment before it reached the floor that would have cut the moratorium in half, along with other accommodations.
