Beginning at 12:01 a.m. on December 13, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department ( TPWD ) will open TX- 19. in Bay of Matagorda to commercial and recreational oyster harvest. The department did shut down TX- 13 in Bay of Matagorda at the same time.
TXs 19 and 20 meet the requirements for reopening, according to tests recently gathered by TPWD. These criteria include requirements for oysters that reach specific levels based on the quantity of legal oyster sizes ( 3 inches or larger ) and the proportion of small oyster size ( 2- 2.9 feet ). According to the criteria, TPWD samples showed a lower abundance of oysters of legal size in TX-13.
All areas that are now closed for harvest may be monitored by TPWD, and they will resume when they meet the criteria. These regions are accessible for people clam harvesting as of December 13:
