The Texas Parks and Wildlife ( TPW) Commission approved a tag system for capturing large-spotted seatrout at its March 28 meeting.
With the purchase of a saltwater fishing license or confirmation, fishermen can produce an enormous caught seatrout larger than 28 inches. Additionally, the rule allows the retention of one more oversized spotted seatrout per license year and includes a$ 3 Bonus Spotted Seatrout Tag and a$ 3 Exempt Angler Tag ( for those who are legally exempt from license requirements ).
The enormous tag system and the altered oversized seatrout length go into effect on September 1st.
Following a decline in the people brought on by the February 2021 spring storm, the current bag and size limits for caught seatrout were implemented on March 26 across the Texas coast to aid in the recovery of the species. They consist of the following:
- Per fishing, there is a three fish routine bag cap.
- a maximum length of 20 feet and a maximum length of 15 feet
- One huge trout over 30 inches allowed as part of the daily bag cap
Anglers can still use one fish over 30 inches per day as part of the everyday bag through Sept. 1.
