Most people target cobia ( ling, crab- eaters, etc. ) by view hunting, and a few people enjoy chumming them up, but what about teasing? It is unfortunate that few people troll because this method is not only effective, but it also makes it easier to cover ground when you do n’t know where the fish are gathered and the fishing conditions are poor for sight fishing.
This cobia reacted to a dark clinical hose that had rolled.
The hacking is the key to catching cobia on the trolls. You’ll need a mix of# 1, #2, and# 3 planers, with 20′ of 50- or 60- pound head split in the middle with a basketball- containing wiggle and a second ball- containing ( snap ) swivel on the end. Do n’t skip the swivels because the lure you’re going to use will cause a lot of line twist without them. Just what is that lure…?
A 24″ medical hose pipe snake in shades of red, natural, or orange. Red and off-red, like pale, typically take the majority of the fish, but there will also be times when green or orange shine. Make sure that after you snap the hose onto the end of the head, you slide the hook through the eye, get either side of the circle you just created, twist it into a figure eight, and finally provide a strong tug. This causes the line to” swim” through the water in a corkscrew manner because it has a bend in it. To make sure the equipment is swimming and not dragging, toss the line over the side and watch it go to the surface.
Set out a number of different shaft measurements, at least two reds, and whatever else you’d like. Cross your fingers and laid your velocity at three to four miles. Remember that you’ll need to hand-leader in the range beyond the tool if and when you get a cobia on the line. It’s best to turn the throttles up to clutch speed while maintaining the boat’s products throughout the fight, even when leading the fish.
Give trolling a try next time you find yourself having trouble sight fishing because of low light or rough water conditions, or you do n’t feel like getting the boat all chummed up or know of a spot with a particularly hot bite. If any cobia are present, there is a great chance that you’ll realize it’s your new favorite method for bringing those wolves into the boat.
