Marina Wilson of Brazoswood High School is the proud recipient of the Tony Houseman Conservation Legacy Award for the large school department.
Chester Moore, the creator of Higher Calling Wildlife, and his wife Lisa just presented the award to her.
” Tony Houseman was a Houston Safari Club Foundation president and one of my first mentors, in truth, at the very beginning. He saw something in me when I did n’t have a real media resume to speak of, which helped spur me on during the early stages of my career,” Moore said.
Wilson is a senior in high school with the ambition to operate as a sea scientist for the protection of fishing.
I met her at the Houston Fishing Show in 2024, and I immediately noticed anything. She was a clear option for this award as I contacted her mother and learned more about her. Pre and post-high college graduates were the two groups we divided up this year, according to Moore.
It was evident to me that she was more than deserving when I saw that she was already working as an intern at Sea Center Texas in Lake Jackson and working with southern flounder alongside her researchers.
Wilson is now giving back to the source and will participate in Higher Calling Wildlife’s” Summer of the Shark” job to help children who love sharks and have specific needs learn more about sharks. CCA- Texas is funding the project.
” I’m looking forward to learning all I can about coastal fisheries and looking forward to pursuing a career in that discipline,” said I, “being excited to be helping out with what Higher Calling Wildlife are doing.”
