
A land fight is brewing outside Texas’ urban sprawl. It’s not a fight of conquest, but of repudiation between the birds and the bees, the turbines and the Greens.
Texas has long been at the forefront of energy expansion. The state leads the nation in wind power production both due to its friendly business climate, which includes population growth driving up electricity demand, and its vast tracts of sparsely populated land. Now, Texas is ramping up its solar power game with 39,000 megawatts of projects — over 150 in number — in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) queue. That’s more than doubling its current portfolio.
