The Texas House of Representatives kicked off an eventful first day of the 89th Texas Legislature under the pink dome, with the swearing-in of members-elect, remarks from the Texas Secretary of State (SOS), and pledges of allegiance — overshadowed by the anticipation of the upcoming speaker’s race, but a momentous ceremony nonetheless.
“Showtime, showtime!” Secretary Jane Nelson said as she walked across the floor towards the podium, where she called the chamber to order and introduced individuals leading the pledges of allegiance, time of prayer, and the National Anthem.
