A state lawmaker from Harris County wants to make judges liable for harm done by violent suspects if they are released on a personal recognizance (PR) bond in response to numerous stories in Texas of repeat offenders who commit new crimes.
“If the judge makes a bad decision and lets somebody out on a PR bond who ends up being a flight risk or ends up being somebody who is going to go kill the witness, then the judge should be held liable for that,” Texas Rep. Tom Oliverson (R-Cypress) told The Texan.
