With the start of the bird time this month, drop shooting officially began, but it’s never too late to learn the value and skill that hunting brings to Texas wildlife through approaching hunter education classes. Through the end of February, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s( TPWD ) Hunter Education Program will provide in-person learning opportunities that combine a classroom course with opportunities for novice hunters to interact with experts in the field.
According to Steve Hall, the head of the TPWD’s Hunter Education Program,” These classes are a great option for anyone who has been interested in learning how to chase to do so with one of our expert hunter training instructors.” ” Looking allows people to feed themselves in an honest and responsible manner and plays a significant role in managing the people of Texas’ local types.”
Workshops with hands-on learning opportunities are scheduled for this fall and cover topics like went hunting, waterfowl fishing, trapping, and wilderness survival. There will be practitioners present at each of these situations to help the participants develop their skills.
On the Hunter Education website on the TPWD site, enrollment for all future workshops can be made online. A current Texas shooting license and a state support for migratory birds are requirements for all bird hunting classes. The TPWD site, sporting goods shops, and neighborhood TFWD law enforcement agencies all offer certificates for purchase.

Trapping
Trapping 101, Feb. 2 – 4, 2024, Alto, Texas, 75925, 16378 FM 1911, Cherokee Ridge( near Alto ).
- Through hands-on field exercises, students in the Trapping 101 class learn humane and compassionate methods for accountable trapping. A working bait line is set up and operated by participants, who also gain knowledge of the necessary tools, lures, equipment, field dressing, fur harvest, pelt management, and carcass disposal. Traveling is offered on-site.
Waterfowl

- Simple biology, anatomy, trip patterns, and identification are just a few of the subjects covered in the Waterfowl 101 course. Prior to the chase, participants also gain knowledge of pistol shooting fundamentals and firearms safety. Instructors impart home-based activity recipes while teaching hands-on industry dressing. Participants will also have access to Texas Game Wardens who will inform them of the right field transfer, storage, and transportation regulations.
Survival in the wild
Survival in the wild 101, Feb. 23 – 25, Coleto Creek, 365 Coleto Park Road, Victoria, TX, 77905
- This hands-on wilderness survival course covers a variety of subjects, including success first aid, house, construction, fire beginning techniques, knots, map and compass, foraging and plant recognition, and more. The initial aid section of the group includes certifications for Cease the Bleed. Students will be able to test their abilities by building their own sanctuary, foraging for food, and enjoying a night under the stars on Saturday night, which is reserved for single camping.
Through the TPWD open drawn hunts program, young people and their families are encouraged to register for further hunting opportunities. Exclusive hunting permits are available for public hunts, including alligator, white-tailed deer, mule, exotic, wild hog, javelina, and turkey. Additionally, a number of U.S. Forest Service qualities offer antlerless permits.
Through their Texas Youth Hunting Program( TYHP ) and Adult Learn to Hunt Program, Texas Wildlife Association( TWA ) also offers experiences. Children between the ages of 9 and 17 and their parent or guardian who want to place what they learned in the fundamental Hunter Education Course( a requirement for TYHP expeditions ) into practice on private land across Texas are ideal candidates.
