Sanchez appointed Uvalde Justice of the Peace

By M. Garcia at Uvalde Leader-News, Dec. 14, 2020

Uvalde County Commissioners have appointed Roland Sanchez as Precinct 6 Justice of the Peace to replace Ernesto “Neto” Luna, who tendered his resignation this month.

Luna, whose resignation will become effective on Dec. 31, has served for 25 years in the position. He defeated Sanchez and Mario A. Valdez in the Democratic primary in his 2018 bid for reelection to a four-year term.

Sanchez will take office on Jan. 1, 2021, and serve for the rest of Luna’s two-year unexpired term. He also serves on the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District board of trustees.

The announcement came after commissioners held an hour-long closed session to discuss the matter.

Reconvening at 11:45 a.m., Commissioner Mariano Pargas Jr. motioned to appoint Sanchez and Commissioner Randy Scheide seconded the motion.

Commissioner Jerry W. Bates voted in accord with the motion. Commissioner Ronald Garza abstained from the vote.
