Janie Lopez (R-San Benito ), a state representative, was initially thought to be vulnerable in Tuesday’s election, but her 10-point victory over Democrat Jonathan Gracia put a powerful stamp on Republicans ‘ monumental night on the ballot.
Lopez won House District ( HD ) 37 by 5, 576 votes and 10 points, substantially outperforming the district’s partisan leaning — D-51 % according to The Texan’s Texas Partisan Index. With Tuesday’s outcomes and the GOP’s powerful night, that district will probably change to GOP-leaning.
