
Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows indicated that they support Texas camps receiving licenses to operate this summer even if they don’t meet the letter of the law on new fiber-optic internet requirements, following a lawsuit and pushback from several camps over the demand.
Following the flooding disaster in Central Texas on the weekend of July 4, 2025 — which claimed the lives of 28 at Camp Mystic, including counselors, campers, and the camp owner — the Texas Legislature sprung into action in a special session to craft laws to avoid such tragedy in the future.
