November 07, 1934 – June 23, 2019
Norma Nell Sweeten was born November 7, 1934 and passed from this earthly life into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on June 23, 2019. Norma was the youngest daughter of Jim Henry Davis and Mary Ella Cochran. She had eight brothers and one sister.
When Norma married Robbie Sweeten, they were station in France while Robbie served in the Air Force. They traveled all over Europe during their time there. She loved to tell her kids and grandkids about their travels. They met a lot of people and had Bible studies in their chateau. Robbie and Norma’s faith traveled with them where ever they went, and they shared their love of God with others.
Norma had many passions, but her greatest love was for the Lord. She carried that faith with her throughout her life! She had a beautiful Alto voice and loved to sing. Norma also had a natural talent playing the piano. She could play anything you ask and never needed any sheet music. She could still play the piano beautifully even though her memory failed her.
She loved her family and loved spending time with them. Her family will always cherish the goodness of her homemade pies. She loved to read to all of her grandchildren and her grandchildren loved it when she did. She made the stories come alive with her excitement and enthusiasm. It was almost certain one story book was not going to be enough.
Norma loved her teaching career and always found a way to teach even when she wasn’t in the classroom. She touched many young lives. She loved all her students, even the ones she called “little pills”. She loved telling everyone about her students that made great achievements in her class.
Norma loved to talk about her childhood. She had fond memories of her mother’s biscuits, they were always “light and fluffy”.
Her favorite Christmas gift was a doll she had seen in a store window while shopping with her aunt. Norma also told the stories about sitting around the radio listening to news about the war, wondering if her brothers were all safe.
Norma loved to play games and put puzzles together. She was always ready for a game of Bridge. She played games with the grandkids just like she read to them. One of their favorites was Memory. She was always encouraging others to do their best. If she wasn’t playing games or doing a puzzle you could find her sitting on her porch overlooking the Nueces River with a glass of iced tea, reading a good book. She called it “Relaxing on the Nueces!”
Norma is preceded in death by her husband Robin “Robbie” Sweeten and grandson Sawyer Sweeten.
Those left to cherish her memory are sons David Sweeten and wife Rhonda, Tim Sweeten and wife Nina. Grandchildren Stephanie Sweeten Cressman (Mike), Brandon Sweeten (Vanessa), Matthew Sweeten (Emily), Jason Sweeten (Lorena), Madilyn Sweeten Durrie (Sean), Sullivan Sweeten, and Maysa Sweeten.
