The Texas House committee tasked with redrawing the state’s congressional map passed the projected GOP five-seat gain along party lines on Saturday morning after a 15-hour public hearing the night before.
Republicans believe they’ll gain five new seats in Congress under the proposal, filed by state Rep. Todd Hunter (R-Corpus Christi) on Wednesday, which has more than 50 Republicans signed on as joint- or co-authors. The expected gains come in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and South Texas as lines for all but one existing congressional district were shifted around.
