The Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts announced that an extra 53, 000 students will receive funding from the TEFA plan for the 2026–2027 school year, bringing the total number of TEFA recipients to almost 96, 000.
During the 89th Legislative Session, TEFA was established through the contentious Senate Bill ( SB ) 2 and established education savings accounts ( ESA ) that allow parents to pay for private school tuition, homeschool supplies, tutoring, and other costs. TEFA awards approximately$ 10,500 to qualified students, up to$ 30, 000 to students with disabilities, and$ 2, 000 to students who attend homeschool.
