In order to update the private angling red snapper calibration ratios and increase the Gulf gray snapper catch limits, NOAA Fisheries is implementing a final rule for a framework action in the Gulf of Mexico ( Gulf ). The last rule and construction action
• Modify the validation numbers for Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi, and the condition- survey calibrated yearly get limits (ACL ) accordingly. The improvements increase the state-surveyed ACLs ‘ accuracy.
• Increase the gray snapper overfishing limit ( OFL ), acceptable biological catch ( ABC ), and ACL based on the results of the most recent stock assessment, which included recreational data estimates that were based on the Marine Recreational Information Program ( MRIP )- Fishing Effort Survey ( FES ) findings.
Summary of Adjustments: Red Fish
• Based on updated state survey data provided to the Scientific and Statistical Committee ( SSC), the framework action and final rule change the calibration ratios for Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi. Since Louisiana did not give up-to-date state survey data, a shift to Louisiana’s percentage was not taken into account in this rule. No conversion is required because Texas has previously taken part in the national survey.
• Table 1 contains the equivalent state ACLs, as well as the latest calibration ratios and those that are being implemented under this rule.
Stand 1: Current measurement numbers and those being implemented for Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi. To calculate the state-based annual catch limit, the federal ACL is multiplied by the applicable state ratio in order to get the state-based annual catch limit. It is based in part on landings estimates provided by the MRIP- Coastal Household Telephone Survey ( CHTS ). All workouts are expressed as total weight.
